RC3: Sorrento, Italy

We departed Pompeii on the Circumvesuviana train and arrived in Sorrento 40 minutes later.  The town is known for its lemon trees, which we took as a sign to get lemon gelato pronto.

We checked into our hotel and got ridiculously excited about our room & patio and the 5 pools built into the cliffs.  Making a mental note to spend the next morning by the pools, we walked downtown to explore and watch the sunset.

After an Italian aperitivo, we walked over to the cliffs and watched the sunset before dinner at La Fenice, which turned out to be one of the best meals we ate on the trip.  We had mussels, spaghetti with clams, and a spicy pizza, enjoyed with Moretti beer (our favorite!)  We continued the night at a wine bar and finished with more gelato.  I think that might be W's definition of an ideal day :)

The remainder of our time in Sorrento was spent admiring the great views from the pool deck,

and wandering the cute streets; the main street in town switches from traffic- to pedestrian-only at 7:30pm each night, and it seems like everyone comes out to walk and socialize.  We joined in and loved it.

On our second night in Sorrento, we enjoyed an aperitivo and mozzarella di bufala at Inn Bufalito before strolling down the cliff on a steep pathway to the Marina.

We loved Sorrento.  Now on to Positano and the Amalfi Coast!
